MTH 20-2207

Built in the early 50s, the E-8 was one of the most popular of EMD's Diesel "E" Series locomotives.  The E-8 was, in fact, one of the last locomotives to sport the streamlined "Bulldog" nose first seen on EMD's E and F units in the 1940s.

The 2,250 horsepower E-8 routinely pulled passenger trains on most major express routes at speeds up to 100 mph.  Unfortunately, the drastic decline in passenger service during the 1960s led many railroads to transition from the streamlined beauty of the E-8 to the more utilitarian general purpose locomotives that dominated the railroad landscape for the next 20 years.
